Crucial M4 256GB reading 250Mbps average ∆
This evening, I swapped the M4 for the M500 series (introduced April 2013) that showed almost similar read and write speeds at 255Mbps average.
Almost similar readings on the Crucial M500 480GB at 255Mbps average ∆
Although startup and shutdown improved by 2-3 seconds, there is hardly any improvement in RW speeds over the M4. This is due to limitations posed by the 3GB/s link speeds of the older controllers which the M4 is configured for. For the 6GB/s link speeds introduced 2011 onwards, the M500 is said to publish clock speeds nearing 500Mbps.
