Windows users - a 'Tolerating' bunch?

Image
Preamble: This post is lengthy. I apologize. Two analogies • three questions • two deductions • The general science is that Windows users are a 'Tolerating' bunch for accepting malware-ridden platforms from the maker willingly. I suggest they are not 'Tolerating' anything, but doing quite well in an all-encompassing religion. I suggest the Windows user is the proverbial fundamentalist applying quirks of his doctrine to full effect, and that his form and practice, deemed awkward and at times hilarious, appear quite normal to him. He is numbed into treating the issue of malware-breach as a 'sidebar' rather than an 'emergency' . I suggest he is at peace with his platform. Analogy. Two houses are on the market. Both models bear common features of a typical home, but one has a major flaw. Its foundation is not termite-treated. The other model is sound and comes with a termite-proof guarantee. Question! Why do majority of home owners prefer the termit...

'Conventional' Ramblings

Image
P reamble: Folks, the clipped verbiage of emails is fast replacing the nuances of a 'conventional' letter. Purely as writing exercises, I emailed tech-oriented responses to friends in 'conventional' style. In other words, you may say I rendered 'long-winded' ramblings (re-posted below with actual names of addressees substituted). The downside to 'conventional' writing is that it is 'time-consuming'. The upside is the 'rambling' is probably read, but only if the addressee is convinced that it was 'personally addressed' and that it was indeed a 'time-consuming' effort for the writer. (1) The iMac 27" . John, the 27” 3.06 dual-core is a lovely package for the price but, although the i5 quad-core (a thousand Ringgit more) runs at 2.66GHz, it translates higher than 3.06. The i5 has 8MB of L3 cache shared among the 4 cores and sits with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card that comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory. It also featu...

Dislodge from the OIC

Image
Article 25 of The Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam (Cairo) adopted 1990 by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) states “The Islamic Shari'ah is the only source of reference for the explanation or clarification to any of the articles of this Declaration” Article 24 states “All the rights and freedoms stipulated in this Declaration are subject to the Islamic Shari'ah”. As such and by deduction, the preceding 23 articles, no matter how noble their intention, are of no use and would pose conflict in a multi-cultural and religious fabric. Four decades ago, a theological cloak is spun over Malaysia when the Prime Minister is appointed Secretary General of the OIC. Two decades later, after subscribing to Cairo , the controversial amendment to the Federal Constitution is in place. A decade later, the Prime Minister declares the nation Islamic while it assumes Chairmanship of the OIC. Now, Islamists push their agenda to fruition. To remove the cloa...

Orkin's Rolltop ©

Image
Are the ism masters teasing us again with their magic? When they brought chemotherapy on-stream, it was said the technology was perfected a decade earlier. Same was said when the cell-phone was introduced. Now, Evengi Orkin develops what is termed a concept – a flexible OLED laptop – tablet convertible that morphs from a scroll to a 13” laptop and ends up as a 17” touch-screen tablet. The display wraps around a power stand that incorporates the webcam, speakers and relevant ports. My instinct was that the design of my Gigabyte convertible is analogous to David's Volvo Amazon , but I had no reference point when I procured it early this year. Now I have. The more I revise the promotional clip, the more I believe the Rolltop is a reasonable expectation, rather than a futuristic concept, for this day and age. Keep the masters safe and they will huddle. Let them huddle and enjoy their magic. Cheers, Tommy Video origin: Orkin Design © Image compostion: Googl...

The 'Kartika Sari' matter

Image
Religious Judgments pronounced in the public domain fall into a hopeless rubik and this one is no different. She will not be punished because her conviction was given under a code whose scales balance between Shame and Honor . Simply said, international ridicule amplifies her Shame  and when multiplied by the Ummah, it  bears ultimately upon the Prophet. Consider the female journalist from Sudan who was in a similar predicament recently. Her punishment was deferred. She was freed two months ago. Her colleagues, similarly charged, were flogged under stealth before their matters became public but in the case of the journalist, her position caused intense media attention. The ensuing ridicule of the pronouncement is the sole reason her sentence was set aside. Incidentally, she and her colleagues were charged for wearing trousers at a private party. Consider the female journalist from Saudi Arabia. The King waived her flogging sentence last month. She was saved 60 las...

My Sweet Satan † Stairway To Heaven

Image
In the 80s, I was handed an audiocassette containing a lecture by Pastor Gary Greenwald on messages back-masked in Stairway To Heaven, Hotel California, Another One Bites The Dust,  and other popular numbers. Stairway To Heaven,  in particular, is distinctive in that when the chorus is phonetically reversed at 75bpm, audible sentences occur, apparently about Satan. If you sing and record the chorus in your own voice (as this YouTuber did ), the same sentences occur when it is reversed. When I experienced it myself, it tingled the spine. (The clip below is a 13-minute screencast I uploaded on Vimeo. Click the slider if it's hesitant in the beginning. After the pause, the second table turns in reverse, and note the bpm being brought down - to 75) The chorus commences at 4.20. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow - don't be alarmed now - it's just a spring clean for the May queen - Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run - ther...
