MING: 1999-2009
Preamble:- 8.48am February 21st 2009 saw the demise of Ming, a confidante, companion, friend and a bundle of joy to Alex Peters, not to mention, Flo, Dian, Carol and those his life touched. Ming the entertainer de-stressed anyone who laid eyes on him and girls in particular just loved to cuddle the pocket dynamo. He did not have a 'business end' and given the pain he endured, he was still all 'fun'. He succumbed to cancer but not before thumbing his nose at kemo several years. His resilience was amazing. He hung on as long as he could. The video posted below is Alex’s labor of love for his dear Mingy.
I sense dread in the impending storm. Mingy paused. “Would you face it alone! You see, I have no fear of ponies, none at all. I know them and they me”.
You look bushed, your voice, tired. Your effort was more daunting than thought, wasn't it! That is because I am complex, born and bred. Just look at me and you thought I was a thoroughbred mutt?
Remember before I left, I stood stout and looked pensively at you. I was telling you “This is how you proceed when the time comes. The way you came, quiet and easy - pride, dignity and at least some hair intact”. For heaven’s sake, the kemo sessions were a breeze. It was the reflection of the sun off my eyes, not tears.
Consider yourself blessed to have had a teacher in me. I taught you moves, I taught you structure and as you well know, my middle name is ‘stress-management' - It still is.
In essence, I taught you what 'love' is all about.
You are indeed fortunate to exist in my era. You certainly are!
Only a pet owner who regards his pet as his child will relate to this and would understand the meaning of "Unconditional Love"
ReplyDeleteEvery dot of this pain i comprehend.
All pets go to God i believe..therefore Ming is in no other place. Jan Peters 11 March 09
Yup all dogs go to heaven. Surely we all feel pain when our loved ones depart. My deepest condolence to Ming's owners & friends. Kind Regards, David.
ReplyDeleteWhen Alex brought him back from the clinic, I came over but was engrossed with his computer. Then I saw Ming looking at me and said to Alex 'he's back' I sort of brushed him off because he was not up and running, hence I did not want to interrupt him physically. Now, I regret not going up to him and having a few words. I had no way of knowing he had only hours left. I was oblivious to the pain he was enduring. He was standing proud near the guitars staring at me, perhaps asking me to come over and say hi. That image of him in his final hours reduces me.
ReplyDeleteTom, none of us are perfect in our ways. Sometimes we just see things they way we understand them at that moment. Its not your fault... we are after all humans. Sometimes I think animals are more human than us... Hope this cheers you up buddy! Regards, David
ReplyDeleteHow sad it is to lose a good acquaintance. It must be very painful to all that knew him. My condolences to Alex and all of Ming's friends.

Daddy, I am so very sad to hear that Ming left us and I was away at that time. I dreaded to look at the movie that u have made, afraid that tears will fill my eyes. But once the movie started with that lovely song n Ming happen once again in front of me, I smile again. He brings back all the memories. Although I only have a brief time with him but I will forever treasure them. Hope Alex is OK, please send my regards to him. One thing can be sure, Ming is back to God n in good hands now. He must be happy and watching us from above now. I don't know if you still have any pics of me n Ming, if u do, pls send them to me. Thank you for this piece, u wrote a sentimental one for our dear n lovely Ming.
ReplyDeletedear uncle tom,
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear about ming...
we know how it feels like to lose a dog...
we lost one a couple of years back and it was like a funeral at home...we felt like we lost a sibling/child in our family..
beethoven is now very old...she is 16 years old this year and white paw is 14...
beethoven has slowed down so much and it pains us sometimes to see her that way....he back is giving way and so is her eye sight...but we are thankful that we still have her..and white paw with us :-)
if you have the time, you must go and watch the movie "marley and me"....
it's a beautiful story and every pet owner must watch it...
the nettos watched it last week and it indeed touched us :-)
papa and mummy has always told people that pets show love and teach us how to love unconditionally... i believe in this strongly...
know that Ming is in heaven with all the other doggies who have left us...
love,
melissa
Hi, Tom! So sorry to heard about Ming...I very tearful to see the video... Actually this is predestination of Ming...We do not know what's going happen to ourself in the future. Very sad to know this story... I agreed with David...Sometimes animals are more human than us. Maybe this is what we called 'fate'.

Don't be sad, he will be fine. He will come back to us soon. Tressure whoever near to us, they may be someone we lost before and they are now with us. That is a process of life,we canot stay with something forever, accept the fact and we will understand better.
ReplyDeleteTom,Thank you for posting the Ming Video on your blog. I just viewed the DVD and it is a moving tribute to a dog who was more than just a dog to those who knew and loved him. Although he is gone, Ming will forever remain in the hearts of all thosheard who have had the opportunity to know him and I count myself among them. When I first heard of Ming's passing I thought of Alex and how we would miss his boy like I do my boy Brutus who passed on in his prime many months ago. Every once in a lifetime you may, if you are fortunate enough, come across a dog thatmakes that special connection with you. Ming was such a dog and so was Brutus. They will be sadly missed. Ranjan
ReplyDeletewhat a tragedy..........i feel sorry 4 u.... ming's love is always in ur heart
ReplyDeleteHi Tom,
ReplyDeleteI finally have the pleasure of reading through your blog. Full of insightful treasure. I have the video of Ming but haven't had the courage to play it again since he died. Reading your post about Ming prompted me to watch it again and it is still as painful as ever. Ming was a special boy we bonded immediately from the first time we laid eyes on each other. I guess he knew a dog when he met one.
I'll continue to read..
Hope you and Fat Boy are doing well.
Smiles,
Carol
Thanks Carol, the last line is profound. It's so 'Dylan'.
