HARO MX3
In the late 90s, Englishman Paul Hudson won a European Downhill championship on a homoglated MX3. Above is the standard and I believe only two units were brought into Malaysia. Two 'medium' MX2 models are also in the country.
Mountain Bike International featured Hudson's blue MX3 prominently in its September 1999 issue which I have misplaced. I would appreciate a link to that feature if anyone has access to it.
Nevertheless, please weigh in if you have any information on this machine.
I just picked one up in trade...in Seattle, WA. It needs some work, but it's not too bad. It has some upgraded parts...forks, headset, bars, peddles...im thinking about striping it down and rebuilding it.

Hey Brett, I’m happy they’re still around but it’s gangly in original form. The box frame and links are sound and begs to be rebuilt. A redone MX2 is still winning downhills here in Kuala Lumpur.
ReplyDeleteHello. I just picked one up at a shop in Grand Junction, CO. It looks like someone started a rebuild and then did not finish. Mine is the 19.5 MX3 with a bright yellow frame and red rear triangle with the 4 bolt linkage design. The frame is in amazingly good shape. I plan to finish the rebuild but this is how it sits thus far. Marzocchi Bomber 8" fork with thru axel, Azonic Stem & Bars, ODI lock-on grips, matching set of BOMBSHELL wheels & hubs, Race Face DH Forged cranks & Bash Guard & chain stay guide wheels (not sure what the BB is yet), Fusion seat-post, Haro free-ride saddle, WTB 2.5 Weirwolf tiers front & rear (yes, this 2.5 will fit without rub!).
ReplyDeleteThis is how it came, and with a crapy FRS rear grip shift & derailuer which I will likely replace.
I am planning to install a set of Hayes So1e Hydraulic discs brakes with the larger rotors and probably do something about the shifter along with a full tune and then this beast is ready for DH on Snowmass, Vail, & Keystone in 2012!
Ride-on!

Hey ROG, Nice! The Bomber will go well with the bullet-proof chassis. This dog is all frame and the Marzocchi is the shoulders. I'm at tm.peters@mac.com Post me a clip if you can. Beers, Tommy (Kuala Lumpur)
