Flo's Starsky: 1998 - 2009

In Islamic discourses on the perceived impurity of dogs, one tradition suggests that black dogs are evil (*). This tradition, rooted in pre-Islamic mythology, did not impact Islamic law when jurists of the time considered it to be falsely attributed to Islam.

Nevertheless, the nexus between the law and contemporary social behavior continues to be an evolving bridge challenging the dynamic between a perceived religious dictum and God’s creation of nature.

In Flo, a practicing Muslim, the bridge was never an issue because for her, it never existed. She had always sided with God’s creation rather than subscribe to a religious dictum. Starsky - her lovely companion of 11 years - was simply a testimony of God’s work.

In Azura, a typical Muslim girl, the bridge reached its logical conclusion at a young age, when she had the good fortune to meet Starsky.

The little fellow first terrified her. He stood there in front of the shrieking girl, gazing at her periphery, wondering how to de-construct her ingrained bias and social attitude. He could tell that she loves doggie movies but his instinct told him that she has been discouraged in taking her heart any further.

Starsky achieved his objective by doing just that – standing in front of her - wondering. You see, he wears an invisible sign that reads – To Gaze At Me Is To Eventually Love And Embrace Me. It was inevitable. Within minutes, Azura was following him around the pool.

Azura's 'Denial' and 'Different Perspective'

Azura is now a young lady with a lovely Terrier in her family. She told me that meeting Starsky disabled and enabled two switches within her.

Starsky disabled her Denial and enabled a Different Perspective.

Cheers, Tommy

  1. What is clean according to Islam? Raping their own kids? Understimating women capabilities? Eating in the toilets during ramadam? Islam, christianity, or any other religion in the world is integrated by humans. No human is perfect in this world. Human being has weakness. So about what cleaness we are talking about? Not even the water is clean now days.

  2. You have a point, Anon. Not even the water is clean, in an imperfect world.
