“I’m probably not going to be doing any movies for United Artists any time soon” – Beghe (referring to the Cruise-owned studio)
In April 2008, actor Jason Beghe (Everwood, Jag, Numb3rs, CSI, Cane) unravelled Scientology, a religion he had been a member of for 14 years. In an interview with The Village Voice, he claimed to have given the church about a million (US) dollars to ‘reach the Bridge to Xenu’. He offered a surprisingly candid behind-the-scenes 411 on the Hollywood set, with Tom Cruise and John Travolta currently embedded within the group.
Paraphrasing Beghe, religion is the ultimate mousetrap. However, it does not work without cheese, whereas a cult is a religion because you are the cheese.

Bodie Elfman gave him a copy of What Is Scientology, a lavishly illustrated hardback that introduced him to the idea that L. Ron Hubbard had invented a “technology” of the mind that supposedly enables the devout to achieve superhuman capabilities. The purification rundown, a detoxification ritual, caught his eye.
Hubbard’s followers believe that if church members undergo an increasingly complex and expensive process known as “The Bridge,” they may unlock the capacities of the mind so completely that they become Clear, have total recall, can leave their bodies, and are impervious to disease. After reading the book Elfman gave him, Beghe says he was ready to go the whole hog.
“Give me some Scientology, man.”
