Franz Ferdinand: Fade Together

When was the last time a name of a band influenced your history? Unlike some notables where choice of names are found wanting, a Glaswegian foursome, who opened gates to the likes of Kaiser Chiefs and Futureheads , is named after a nineteen- century Austrian-Hungarian prince, Archduke Franz Ferdinand , heir to the throne before his assassination that precipitated the Serbian war and world tension that followed. The cover design of the second album is more telling than the bland design of their debut. It's beautifully vintage and reflective of the era – a dame with a period head covering ‘calling out to her Prince’ is relatively mild but a refreshing change, considering the decibels offered in this genre. Fade Together is a slow to medium ballad played to 'hopeless' remnants left behind before closing. The gem is nestled amongst a punk indie spread and comes with a disguised Gregorian Chant in its basement. Surprisingly though, it is not one of the f...

Liu Yi's 'Mahjong Game' takes aim at Motherland

Image
Liu Yi, an artist based in Toronto, authored ‘The 2008 Beijing Mahjong Game’ in 2005. He exploits to the hilt, female sensuality in a power equation between the United States, Russia, China, Japan and Taiwan, where girls analogise the nations at a game of mahjong while exhibiting modesty levels that represent their respective positions. The tattooed girl in pigtails is China, and on her left is a bare-naked Japan in full concentration. The U.S. is represented by the Caucasian in lingerie. She is looking to her left at a relatively young Taiwan who is apparently out of the game, but holds a fruit basket with a knife by her side. Russia prostrates herself in reckless abandon, engaging the proceedings from her viewpoint. Naked Japan contrasts with an engaging China who is partially covered below her waist, indicating contingency options that others have to guess. In vulgar fashion, Russia exposes her smalls to the U.S. while reaching out to China who is cheating...

Jew-baiting in the Malaysian Parliament

Developed by Intel Israel Dr. Salk at the University of Pittsburg's Virus Research Laboratory inoculating a young girl in 1955 I n 1955, Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine that helped prevent mankind from walking like primates, but it appears the vaccine of the good Jewish doctor did not prevent some in the Malaysian Parliament from talking like monkeys - pun intended. On the subject of Jewish science, while peering at the inoculation on their arm, they may want to gaze at their laptops and imagine those Intels Inside that were developed in Israel and ask themselves why all this science is still keeping them Jew-baiting in the realm of the anti-semite. 911: The Alien in the Equation

Image
Thermite At a conference in Kuala Lumpur, Tun Mahathir said, 911 " was staged" and " Muslims were not involved" and the towers " came down funny." A basic design principle:- A workable design comprise elements that relate or are logically positioned to form a working structure. Therefore, an element alien to the equation must follow a failed design. It leaves no other route. In 1998, a design called ‘Jihad Against America’ is mooted by Osama bin Laden, a fundamentalist Muslim, attributed to assembling the working structure. Main elements of the design are (a) the simultaneous bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania 1998 (b) the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen 2000, culminating with (c) the incident in New York on September 11 th 2001. The elements are logically positioned towards the central theme to form a single workable visual unit, given that each bears a crime, a victim, motive, a suspect and even a confession . Over the decade, the...
